What makes a Cat. Convertor go bad???
I recently replaced the Cat. Conv. on my 1994 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. It was cutting out and back firing as so forth, and after replacing the Cat., the car ran fine. Now, 3 months later, it is back to the old backfiring and missing again. I got up under the car last night and banged on the exhaust with a hammer, and my Cat. is rattling like crazy. Any suggestion as to why it went bad so quick?
a poor running engine destroys the converter… get a tune up.. new plugs.. and check to see why your car is running rich..rich means you have gas that is not being burned.. sometimes you get lucky and it is just the old plugs and wires,,, other times it is a dead cylinder… remember convertors get to be around 800 degrees.. so when unburnt gas or oil hits it… it starts a small fire that melts everything inside it..
