How do I get my son to use a security blanket to fall a sleep?

He is 6 weeks and I put him down when he is drowzy but he ends up waking up about one hour later and I pick him up and do the same thing again. What can I do to sooth him to fall back to sleep alone. I am going back to work soon and want him to be secure while I am gone.

At 6 weeks I think he’s too young for a security blanket. Really at that age they shouldn’t be sleeping with a blanket yet.. it’s a suffocation hazard.

I hear that things that smell like you may help to calm him.. maybe you could sleep with his crib mattress a few nights first rather than putting it right onto his crib after you launder it?… just a thought!
