As grandparents we often give tiny gifts to our grandchildren and although the grandkids may never admit quite often those gifts are really not something that they can put to good use. Lets face it it's pretty hard to stay up with the trends of the young people nowadays. Perhaps you have heard about time capsules in the past. There were a few schools that made some time capsules for their classes to be opened many years in the future.
What is a time capsule?
This is where a group of very special items are gathered by a group of people. These items are then sealed in a container and buried or hidden in a special place. It is agreed upon that they won't be opened until a certain year or occasion.
The purpose of the time capsule
All of the items that are contained in the time capsule will have a special meaning and a special memory attached to them. When the capsule is opened those memories will be opened as well. All too often in life we forget about the little precious moments in life, and the time capsule is a way of capturing these and presenting them when the time is right.
When to open the time capsule
It will all depend on the age of the grandchildren when this is started. For example if you are going to build a time capsule with little ones from the age of 5 to 10 for example, then it could be opened on their wedding day or the day they have their first child. The whole idea is to preserve the time capsule for many years in its unopened state until you are long gone.
The day that it is opened by the grandchild should be on a day when they want to feel the closest to you. For example when your granddaughter or grandson is getting married and if you have passed away then they will surely be wishing you could have been there. This would be the day they could take a few quiet moments and open the time capsule where your memory could give them your blessing.
A time capsule heirloom
It could even be determined that the time capsule would be handed down through the generations with each generation passing on the stories of the memories that it contains. It will soon become a most intriguing family possession. It could go unopened from the hands of the grandchild once they reach adulthood to their children which would be your great grandchildren and so on. Until the day came that someone needed a extra touch of love so desperately that it was agreed upon that the time capsule could be opened.
