What books do you read to your baby?
Our daughter is nearing 5 months and thus far we’ve just been reading to her whatever we’re currently reading (magazines, novels, how-to, newspapers, etc). Now she’s becoming more interested in the pages, and pictures, rhyming, and rhythmic word flow…you know, the hallmarks of normal baby and young children’s books.
The thing is, I’m not really sure what to scoop up for her. We have some typical chidren’s library staples (Dr. Suess, Bernstein Bears, “Goodnight Moon”, etc) but I want some books that are kind of off the beaten path that she’d like looking at.
Any suggestions? What do you read to your rug monster?
We just expanded our library so I have lots of opinions.
The Sandra Boynton books are pretty awesome. They are genuinely funny and fun to read. Any of them are great but I am especially fond of “The Belly Button Book” ” But not the Hippopotamus” and “Pajama Time.”
The “Nutshell Library” is a set of four tiny books by Maurice Sendak that are *awesome.*
“Hush Little Baby” by Sylvia Long is a rewrite of the song, with less emphasis on material wealth, lol, but I really like it.
“Olivia” is awesome.
I am also a big fan of “The Runaway Bunny” another book by Margaret Wise Brown, who wrote Goodnight Moon (in fact, one of the paintings on the wall in the room in “Moon” is from that book.)
